What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any oral complication that interferes with everyday life. Painful cavities, abscesses, or trauma to teeth all necessitate immediate care. Dr. Marjan can alleviate these issues, helping patients return to their responsibilities quickly.
Emergency Dental Management
Below are some tips to help you manage your discomfort and minimize damage when an emergency occurs.
Many complications will cause swelling and pain along or within the gums. This can be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers. If you’re experiencing bleeding of the gums or from the socket of a lost tooth, avoid aspirin. Aspirin-based pain relievers thin the blood and can cause more bleeding. Instead, choose NSAIDs like ibuprofen.
If a tooth has been knocked out, and its’ roots are intact, there is a chance it can be reattached if certain conditions are met. The tooth’s roots must be kept healthy, as these must reattach to the socket to keep the tooth sturdy. Thus, you must refrain from washing or drying the tooth, as this will damage the roots. Keep the tooth submerged in either milk, saliva, or water. Call Dr. Marjan immediately to schedule an emergency reattachment procedure.
